Optical measurements of ground-state properties of short-lived nuclei in resonance cells

Hyperfine structure and isotope shift of radioactive Hg, Au and Cd isotopes have been determined by optical spectroscopy. In all cases the atoms were confined in a resonance cell. The various variants of the cell technique and alternative methods as the resonance ionization spectroscopy related to the investigation of short-lived nuclei are described, and some results are discussed.
Influence of the electro-optical properties of an a-Si:H single layer on the performances of a pin solar cell

We analyze the results of an extensive characterization study involving electrical and optical measurements carried out on hydrogenated amorphous silicon (α-Si:H) thin film materials fabricated under a wide range of deposition conditions. By adjusting the synthesis parameters, we evidenced how conductivity, activation energy, electrical transport and optical absorption of an α-Si:H layer can be modified and optimized. We analyzed the activation energy and the pre-exponential factor of the dark conductivity by varying the dopant-to-silane gas flow ratio. Azapropazone binding to human serum albumin

Azapropazone, a new non-steroidal antiinflammatory drug, is strongly bound to human serum albumin. As revealed by Scatchard analysis, one high-affinity binding site with an association constant of about 1.2 x 10(6)M-1 and two low-affinity binding sites with association constants of about 0.05 x 10(6)M-1 were found. While the high-affinity binding site of azapropazone is clearly not identical with the diazepam or digitoxin binding sites of human serum albumin, contradictory evidence was found by optical measurements and displacement studies for the similarity of the azapropazone and the warfarin binding site of human serum albumin. Water quality and anthropogenic loads in many, but not all, cases are related. Some water quality monitoring programs analyse samples for the presence of Escherichia coli. These bacteria can come from humans and animals. Human‐attributable effluent contains optical brighteners (OBs) from detergents. A convenient and affordable optical quantitative method giving a linear luminescence outcome over several orders of detergent concentrations in the water solution is demonstrated. Low-pressure capillary discharge lamps in Ar–Hg and Xe–Hg mixtures are studied. The discharge size is 0.5 mm (500 µm) in radius. According to the literature, such types of plasma sources are classified as microplasmas. The studies include spectrally resolved optical measurements, tomographic reconstructions and numerical simulations using the collisional–radiative model for an Ar–Hg plasma. Abstract Raman spectra and rotation angle of the indicatrix have been measured in the intermediate phase of the crystal [N(CH3)4]2Znl4 The results are consistent with the existence of large ferroelastric domains piled up along the a axis in a monoclinic phase P1121/a (Pnma notation in the paraelectric phase). The phase sequence (Pnma-P1121/a-P21ca) in this compound is different from other members of [N(CH3)4]2BX4 family.

In this study, the severity of canine skin erythema was assessed objectively for the first time. Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common canine inflammatory and pruritic skin disease associated with an allergic reaction to exogenous allergens. The monitoring of skin erythema over time with lesion severity scales like the CADESI-4 is an essential diagnostic and research tool, especially for clinical trials. Currently, the erythema assessment is subjective due to visual estimation.
